Miami...You Got Style!
Episode 6, season 2 of The Golden Girls, is where Dorothy and Rose write a song as part of a competition. As I was rewatching the episode for the hundredth time, I remembered the trip to Miami. It was the first trip after I finished my master's, and it was a year after my father's death. It was the moment when I finally got to drop everything and focus on healing. The first day, I quieted all the voices in my head. We have no idea the number of people whose voices are in our heads day in and day out. Then, I took the time to rest. The most beautiful thing is that in the afternoons, there would be thunderstorms, and I was able to just rest.
The food was great! I visited a Cuban restaurant, and it was 10/10. I was hesitant about trying the chocolate cake because not everyone knows how to make a good chocolate cake, but I was impressed. I also remember that at the time I was reading Instruction for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. That book did not have the ending that I wanted, but it taught me that we need to treasure the moments we do get to have with the people that we love. It was a very important message for me. I had just lost my dad, and in the grieving process I found myself just conflicted about the time he and I spent together. Anyways, it was a great trip.
